FLASH: BoE hike focus is the coming months

- The MPC voted 7:2 again for no change in monetary policy at its May meeting. Q1 was seen as a soft patch with the underlying outlook broadly unchanged.
- A few interest rate hikes are not expected to take inflation below target, and with excess demand still building, most MPC members chose to signal a focus on data in “the coming months”. That guidance is consistent with my Aug-18 rate call.
