UK politics: Boris wins a need not to fail fast

- Boris Johnson won the Conservative leadership contest with 66% of votes cast. The substantial margin of victory will likely embolden his position in the party, and encourage cleansing of the cabinet, but does not aid the parliamentary arithmetic.
- Brief comments after the announcement did not reiterate an intent to remove the backstop. Doing so would probably make a no-deal outcome my baseline, but a fast failure of negotiations before 13 September would risk a pre-Brexit election.
