JKSB Full Year Highlights_Expolanka Holdings PLC (EXPO)_ FY2017

Expolanka Holdings PLC (EXPO) reported full year earnings of Rs.954.5mn (-14.2% YoY) for FY2017. PBT was impacted by a significant increase in Finance Costs (+340.7% YoY) which includes a Rs.239mn write down in investment value of Amana Bank PLC shares and other passive investments held at group level. Operational expenses experienced continued growth (+9.4% YoY) as a result of restructuring expenses which began in FY14 and were completed during FY17. Earnings were also impacted by a sharp drop in exchange gains in comparison to the previous year as the volatility of the LKR against the USD remained stable as opposed to the significant depreciation experienced over the course of FY16. Group performance was weakened by margin contraction (gross margin -0.9 ppts YoY to 17.6% and operating margin -0.5 ppts YoY to 3.3%) which offset a robust increase in top line (+13.4% YoY).

We project earnings of Rs.1,050mn for FY2018 (+10% YoY) . The counter currently trades at a FY2018E P/E of 13.0x (6% premium to the industry average of 12.4x) and a P/BV of 1.1x (based on last reported book value) at a market price of Rs.7.00. The divestment of passive investments is set to continue with growth expected in the Freight Forwarding division by virtue of volume growth through client acquisitions.
