- Middle Eastern and African cities have generally performed well, and while the region suffered heavy loses in 2001-02 during the Iraq war growth has been strong since then and the region only suffered a minor dip during the recession in 2008-09.
- The majority of Middle Eastern and African cities have xeperienced little to no per capita GDP growth. The outlying cities are typically in oil-rich nations such as Abu Dhabi and their growth is expected to slow as the West seeks to reduce its dependence on Saudi oil.
- Population across the region has grown rapidly historically and while growth is expected to slow it is still expected to be strong. This slowdown in population growth is indicative of a region poised to transition into a mature and developed economic region.
