Moody's downgrades Commerce (long-term issuer rating to A3 from A2); outlook stable

The long-term counterparty risk ratings (local and foreign currency) were downgraded to A2 from A1, the long-term bank deposit rating (local currency) was downgraded to Aa3 from Aa2...Commerce Bancshares is a bank holding company. Through a second tier bank holding company, the company owns all of the outstanding capital stock of Commerce Bank (the Bank). The Bank engages in general banking business, providing a range of retail, mortgage banking, corporate, investment, trust, and asset management products and services to individuals and businesses. The company also owns various non-banking subsidiaries. Their activities include private equity investment, securities brokerage, insurance agency, and leasing activities. The company's two main markets include St. Louis and Kansas City, which serve as the central hubs for the company The company is managed in three segments: Consumer, Commercial, and Wealth.
