Moody's: Upgrades outpace downgrades for full year 2016 in US public finance

New York, February 15, 2017-- For the fourth quarter and full year 2016, upgrades in US public finance continued to outpace downgrades, furthering the momentum seen in 2015, Moody's Investors Service says in a new report. 2016 was also the first year the par amount of upgraded debt exceeded downgraded debt since 2008.. There were 563 municipal upgrades during 2016, compared to 489 downgrades, the first time there have been back-to-back years with more upgrades since 2008-2009..
