ECONOMY (BRICS+: 2QCY19 - India vis-à-vis other emerging markets)
Macro risk-return matrix improved in Russia (RU), while it worsened in China, Taiwan, Thailand and in most other emerging market (EM) economies including India to some extent. EMs maintained the traction gained in the previous quarter, paring losses in the benchmark equity indices and witnessing lower yields in 2QCY19. Moreover, EM currencies outperformed the USD in the quarter. On the macro front, inflation appeared comfortable across the board. However, the external sector remains a cause for concern, with forex reserves continuing to decline over the last year and export growth coming in weak across most EMs.
This quarterly publication provides a comparative analysis of the macroeconomic conditions in the world’s 10 major EMs. Quite often, these economies are clubbed together as a basket, especially in terms of portfolio allocation.
