METALS WEEKLY: Base metal prices inch up, steel prices stable

Indian steel: Long product (TMT Mumbai) prices were down ~2% WoW. Sponge iron prices were up ~1% WoW, while domestic scrap prices were down ~3% WoW. Domestic iron ore prices were higher on account of demand and rake shortage. Pellet prices were higher. Domestic HRC prices were up ~1% WoW. Import and export HRC offers were unchanged.
Coking coal prices rise: Iron ore prices (China cfr) were up ~1% WoW. Thermal coal prices were up ~3% WoW. Coking coal prices were up ~6% WoW on expectation of supply disruption in Australia. China’s pellet import prices were unchanged. Chinese graphite electrode prices were also unchanged WoW.
Europe: HRC prices were unchanged. CIS HRC export prices were down ~1% WoW. Rotterdam scrap prices were marginally lower WoW.
China prices stable: Chinese local HRC and rebar prices were unchanged. Export rebar prices were marginally higher, while HRC prices were up ~1% WoW.
Base metals higher: Aluminum (cash LME) was up ~1% WoW. Alumina prices were unchanged WoW. Copper (cash LME) was up ~7% WoW. Zinc (cash LME) was up ~1% WoW, while lead was up ~2% WoW. Brent crude prices were unchanged.
