METALS WEEKLY: Coal prices fall ~7%; introducing graphite electrode price chart

Indian steel: Long product (TMT Mumbai) prices were marginally higher WoW. Sponge iron prices were unchanged even in this week, but domestic scrap prices were marginally lower. Pellet and domestic iron ore prices were unchanged. Domestic HRC prices were unchanged, so were the import and export offers.
Raw materials: Iron ore prices (China cfr) were marginally lower WoW on weakness in Chinese steel prices. Thermal coal prices were down ~7% WoW. Coking coal prices were down ~4% WoW. China’s pellet import prices were marginally lower WoW. Chinese graphite electrode prices were down ~2% WoW.
Europe: HRC prices were unchanged, but product spreads improved on lower raw material prices. CIS HRC export prices were up ~2% WoW. Rotterdam scrap prices were unchanged.
China: Chinese local rebar prices were marginally lower, while HRC prices were marginally higher WoW. Export rebar prices were down ~1% WoW, while HRC prices were down ~3% WoW.
Base metals: Aluminum (cash LME) was unchanged. Alumina was unchanged. Copper (cash LME) was up ~2% WoW. Zinc was up ~2% WoW, while lead was up ~3% WoW. Brent crude prices were up ~1% WoW.
