METALS WEEKLY: Domestic long steel product prices show some recovery

Indian steel: Long product (TMT Mumbai) prices were up ~INR1,000/t WoW. Sponge iron prices increased ~2% WoW, while scrap prices were up ~4% WoW. Domestic iron ore and pellet prices were unchanged. Domestic HRC prices were unchanged. HRC import offers were unchanged, but export offers were marginally lower.
Raw materials: Iron ore prices (China cfr) were down ~3% WoW. Thermal coal prices were down ~1% WoW. Coking coal prices were up ~1% WoW. China’s pellet import prices were marginally higher. Chinese graphite electrode prices were down ~1% WoW.
Europe: HRC prices were unchanged. CIS HRC export prices were also unchanged WoW. Rotterdam scrap prices were down ~2% WoW.
China steel prices: Chinese local HRC and rebar prices were unchanged WoW. Rebar prices are trending higher than HRC. Export rebar prices were up ~1% WoW, while HRC prices were down ~2% WoW.
Base metals: Aluminum (cash LME) prices were down ~2% WoW. Alumina prices were higher, supported by production cuts in China. Copper (cash LME) prices were down ~1% WoW. Zinc (cash LME) prices were up ~1%, but lead prices were unchanged WoW. Brent crude prices were down ~1% WoW.
