METALS WEEKLY: Indian long steel product prices continue recovering

 

  • Indian steel: Long product (TMT Mumbai) prices increased ~3% WoW. Sponge iron prices were up ~2% WoW, while scrap prices were down ~1% WoW. Domestic iron ore and pellet prices were unchanged. Domestic HRC prices were marginally higher. HRC import and export price offers were unchanged.
  • Raw materials: Iron ore prices (China cfr) were up ~5% WoW. Thermal coal prices were down ~1% WoW. Coking coal prices were up ~4% WoW. China’s pellet import prices were up ~7% WoW. Chinese graphite electrode prices were down ~2% WoW.
  • Europe: HRC prices were up ~2% WoW. CIS HRC export prices were up ~1% WoW. Rotterdam scrap prices were marginally lower WoW.
  • China steel prices: Chinese local rebar prices were up ~1% WoW, but HRC was marginally lower. Export prices of rebar were unchanged, but those of HRC were up ~1% WoW.
  • Base metals: Aluminum (cash LME) prices were up ~1% WoW. Alumina prices were largely unchanged at USD527/t. Copper (cash LME) prices were down ~1% WoW. Zinc (cash LME) prices were down ~4%, while lead prices declined ~2% WoW. Brent crude prices were down ~1% WoW.
