Market Commentaries

 

  • Equity market Summary

 

Market indexes (BRVM Composite & BRVM 10) ends with a negative performance (w/w). At the end of this week’s session, BRVM Composite index decreased by 0.94% at 214.00 points recording a negative annual performance so far at 10.16%. The BRVM 10 index is down by 0.76% at 201.10 points and in overall still down by 6.52% from the start of the year. The total market value of shares traded this week was at XOF 1.719 billion. Moreover, this week’s volume traded was 633 745 shares against 606 622 shares last week.

 

The market breadth was positive (w/w) with 20 gainers and 19 laggards. At the sector level, Construction (BTP) was the best performer, growing by 14.18% at 85.81 points. As for Tobacco index, it acknowledged the most significant drop (-8.88%) at 28.82 points.

 

The worst performances of the week were recorded by:

 

SOLIBRA CI, which falls by 12.86%, to close at XOF 61 000. In decline of 8.88%, SITAB CI (XOF 41 000) decreased the performance of the Tobacco Index in loss by 2.81 points. SOGB CI (-7.89%) closed at XOF 3 500 against XOF 3 800 last week. BERNABE CI recorded a drop of 7.20% to reach a price of XOF 2 320. Finally, TOTAL SENEGAL did not sustain its positive performance observed last week and closed at XOF 1 500 for a drop of 6.83%.

 

The best performances of the week were recorded by:

 

SETAO CI (+23.64%), which shows the most substantial rise close to XOF 340, inducing the good performance of the Construction (BTP) index overall. UNILEVER CI rose by 19.94% at XOF 12 340 and continue its positive cycle for about four weeks now. BOA CI grew by 5.53% to reach XOF 4 485 in this trading session. ETI (XOF 22) jumped by 4.76% compared to last Friday. And finally, with a jump of 9.69%, SMB CI ended the list with a price of XOF 20 400.

 

 

  • Bond Market Summary

 

The bond market ended this week with a decrease of 0.42% at XOF 3 213.77 billion against XOF 3 227.22 billion last week. The reason for this down is the delisting of the “SUKUK ETAT SENEGAL 6.25 2014-2018”. The total value traded on the market amounts to XOF 1 723 327 484 for 176 170 bonds traded. The bond “ETAT SENEGAL 6.30% 2015-2025” with 149 500 bonds for XOF 1 496 495 000 was the most liquid, representing 86.84% of the total value traded.
