Market Commentaries

 

  • Equity market Summary

 

Market indexes (BRVM Composite & BRVM 10) ends with a negative performance (w/w). At the end of this week’s session, BRVM Composite index decreased by 2.48% at 177.08 points recording a negative annual performance so far at 25.66%. The BRVM 10 index is down by 2.64% at 169.75 points and in overall still down by 21.09% from the start of the year. The total market value of shares traded this week was at XOF 1 969 447 611. Moreover, this week’s volume traded was 1 307 751 shares against 1 353 807 shares last week.

 

The market breadth was negative (w/w) with 10 gainers and 29 decliners. At the sector level, Chemical index was the best performer, growing by 4.44% at 24.42 points and the Tobacco index knew the strongest drop (-6.25%) at 21.09 points.

 

The worst performances of the week were recorded by:

 

UNILEVER CI (-14.39%) which present the most substantial drop of the week, recorded at XOF 8 000. This week SOGB CI (-11.25%) saw its value stood at XOF 2 130. This bad performance is mainly due at the publication of the half year activity report 2018 (revenue and net income respectively down by 16.7% and 77.7%). At this trading session, TOTAL SENEGAL lost 9.96% at XOF 1 175 and continues its negative cycle engaged since two weeks now. This week, NESTLE CI falls by 9.55%, to close at XOF 995. Finally, PALM CI (XOF 2 290) shows a 6.25% drop, inducing the bad performance of Agro-Industries index which lost 1.41point.

 

The best performances of the week were recorded by:

 

BOA MALI (+7.69%) shows the strongest increase with a closing price of XOF 2 450. SMB CI (XOF 18 280) rose by 7.50%. The stock benefits from the enthusiasm generated by the publication of the half year activity report 2018 (revenue and net income respectively down by 37% and 21%). SIB CI grew by 6.83% to reach XOF 2 190. This Friday, UNIWAX (XOF 2 500) ended on a positive dynamic (+6.16%) for a total amount traded on the week of XOF 64 810 600. After the low performance recorded last week, AIR LIQUIDE CI (+4.44%) returned to growth and closed this list at XOF 3 780.

 

  • Bond Market Summary

 

The bond market ended this week with an increase of 1.99% at XOF 3 337.95 billion against XOF 3 272.88 billion last week. The reason for this up is the first listening of the bond “TPBJ 6.50% 2018-2025”. The total value traded on the market amounts to XOF 21 726 046 for 2 212 bonds traded. The bond namely “TPBJ 6.50% 2017-2027” with 1 023 bonds for XOF 10 230 000 was the most liquid, representing 47.09% of the total value traded.
