COVID-19 Economic Update CEE: Varying containment results across countries

This slide deck gives you an updated overview of restrictions and economic, fiscal and monetary measures in Central, South Eastern and Eastern Europe (CEE) and Austria. The data is collected by Raiffeisen RESEARCH analysts based in CEE countries and in Austria and is continuously updated.
Recent developments:
New cases: Situation in CEE begins to vary as some countries continue to report further decline in new daily cases (RU, BY, KO, RS, BG) and some seem to have managed to retreat from recent record highs or stop the surge (PL, RO, AL). Meanwhile in CZ, SK, HU and UA a dynamic increase in new daily cases is currently observed.
Responses: HU already responded to the rise in cases last week by closing its borders while UA extended lockdown till the end of Oct and CZ reintroduced mild restrictions. Big test before winter for the global pandemic will be the reopening of schools which in case of CEE region took place in most countries from September 1, while in some it will be conducted gradually throughout the month.
High frequency and economic data show rebound for most countries with signs of slower pace of recovery. Structure of Q2 GDP data revealed a heavy hit to main components: consumption and investments in almost all countries with exception of RO where investments increased on a yoy basis.
