Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 11th June
BIST added 0.52% yesterday with the bulk of its gains recorded after the 3.30PM release of U.S. inflation data. The move was also supported by the strength in EM currencies which the Lira spearheaded this time. Banks outperformed with the 1.19% jump in their sector index. EKGYO, ASELS, MAVI, TOASO, KOZAL, and CIMSA topped the non-bank gainers while OTKAR, YATAS, HEKTS, ALARK, TAVHL, DOHOL, and PGSUS were some of the weak spots for the day. Coming to this morning, our local macro agenda showcases April'21 Industrial Production numbers due at 10AM local time. Bloomberg consensus +63.1% yoy based on the estimates for calendar-adjusted series and -0.5% mom based on the seasonally & calendar-adjusted series. Separately, CBRT's monthly expectations survey will be revealed at 10AM. We anticipate an uptick start for the BIST as the optimism prevails in global markets and the lira holding onto yesterday's strong gains. U.S. futures are up a few points in early trades and Asian equity indices are mostly trading in the green
