Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 17th August

BIST added 0.53% yesterday after a day totally spent in the positive territory as the key banking names seemed to catch some bids. Benchmark BIST100 index tested the 1,462 level around mid-day before gradually trimming its gains till the close. Banks gained 2.05% on average as AKBNK, HALKB, and ISCTR outperformed peers. Aviation stocks, Koza Group names, SAHOL, ENKAI, MPARK, TRGYO, and GOZDE led the non-bank gainers while TOASO, MGROS, FROTO, KRDMD, KORDS, and BRISA were some of the fewer weak spots for the day. Today, we have a muted local macro agenda. We predict a downtick open for the BIST given the weakness in Asian markets and U.S. futures this morning. Lira is flattish since yesterday's closing bell with the USDTRY pair cruising around the 8.4750 mark.
