Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 17th January

BIST extended its winning streak to the 10th consecutive day with its 0.11% increase on Friday thanks to its late afternoon rebound. Banks climbed 0.40% on average with HALKB and YKBNK leading the peer group. DOAS, CCOLA, GUBRF, TTRAK, INDES, and REITs led the non-bank gainers while THYAO, TCELL, TOASO, TUPRS, SOKM, ALARK, OTKAR, and TAVHL were some of the weak spots. Coming to this morning, our local macro agenda involves December'21 central government budget numbers due at 11AM local time. We foresee an uptick start for the BIST given supportive newsflow related to banks while global equity markets present a mixed picture. Lira is almost unchanged with USDTRY around the 13.58 mark vs 13.5580 at Friday's BIST closing bell.
