Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 23rd December

BIST climbed 1.48% yesterday as the bulls returned to the scene after Monday's sell-off on new virus lockdowns and travel restrictions in Europe. After a cautiously positive open, BIST100 gradually climbed to 1,405 levels and then onto 1,410 in late afternoon before trimming a bit of its daily gains during the last hour of the session. Banks slightly outperformed with the 1.89% gain in their sector index as GARAN and ISCTR took the lead. EREGL, KRDMD, TOASO, PETKM, GUBRF, BAGFS, CLEBI, DOCO, and OYAKC topped the gainers in the broad-based move while BIMAS, TSKB, SELEC, OTKAR, DOAS, and ASELS were among the fewer decliners for the day. Today, our local macro agenda is pretty muted and BIST seems headed for a directionless start amid mixed signals from global markets. U.S. futures are down 0.2% in early trades while Asian markets are mostly trading in slight positive territory.
