Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 26th January

BIST rebounded 1.82% yesterday, partially recovering its losses from Monday's slump. Benchmark BIST100 index gained traction in the afternoon hours after some indecisive moves in the morning. Banks gained 1.71% on average, performing in line with the broader market. TOASO, TCELL, KCHOL, FROTO, ISGYO, and Koza Group names led the non-bank gainers in the BIST100 space while KRDMD, OTKAR, AYDEM, KRVGD, ISMEN, and AKSA were some of the few weak spots. Coming to this morning, our local macro and political agenda are muted. We predict a positive open for the BIST given the 1.6-2.1% overnight gains in U.S. markets after the hour we left and some stability in the lira (USDTRY around the 13.47 mark vs 13.5098 at yesterday's closing bell). U.S. futures are up another c.0.3% in early trades while Asian stock markets present a mixed picture ahead of tonight's FED meeting announcements.
