Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 7th January

BIST climbed 1.06% yesterday as the optimism in global markets also lifted Turkish stocks. It was a day of ups and downs although the index spent the entire day in positive territory. Banks outperformed this time with the 3.15% jump in their sector index as heavyweights AKBNK and GARAN led the way. TCELL, ENKAI, OTKAR, BRISA, MPARK, VESTL, DOHOL, AKSEN, and TTRAK topped the non-bank gainers while PETKM, TKFEN, KOZAL, ISGYO, GOZDE, AKCNS, and ENJSA were among the fewer decliners. Today, we have a muted local macro agenda and we will take our cues from international peers for direction. We duly predict a positive start for the BIST given the upbeat sentiment elsewhere and sustained gains in lira. U.S. futures are up over 0.5% in early trades and Asian indices outside of China are almost all trading in the green.
