Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 8th April

BIST ended 0.19% lower yesterday as a bank-led rebound erased the bulk of earlier losses. After an indecisive start, BIST100 took a sharp drop after 10:15AM and dipped at 1,402 level around mid-day. There was a decent rebound after 3PM that took the index almost back to no-change line at the close. Banks gained 0.86% on average with ISCTR and HALKB leading the pack. EREGL, EKGYO, INDES, TKFEN, SOKM, and OTKAR topped the non-bank gainers while TCELL, VESTL, DEVA, MAVI, ISMEN, BRISA, and Koza Group names were among the weak spots. Coming to this morning, our local macro agenda is mostly muted and BIST seems headed for an uptick open given the positive sentiment in global markets. U.S. futures are up over 0.5% in early trades while Asian indices outside of Japan are almost all trading in the green.
