Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 8th January

BIST added 1.12% yesterday, closing at a new all-time high. BIST100 index opened on an uptick and spent the entire day in positive ground with the move gaining further traction in the final 30 minutes of trading. Banks outperformed for the second day and gained 1.95% on average. EKGYO, OTKAR, HEKTS, SASA, DOHOL, KOZAL, GUBRF, CCOLA, TKFEN, and ARCLK led the non-bank gainers while TATGD, FROTO, MPARK, ENJSA, ODAS, and TTRAK were among the fewer decliners. Today, our local macro agenda showcases Treasury's cash budget balance for December'20 to be disclosed at 5:30PM local time. BIST seems off to another positive start given the supportive mood in global markets. U.S. futures are up over 0.4% in early trades and Asian indices outside of China are almost all trading visibly in the green.
