Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 8th June

BIST added 0.99% yesterday as the index found strength to hop above the 1,440 resistance. After an indecisive open, BIST100 quickly turned north to climb to the 1,445-1,450 range where it spent almost all of the session. Banks outperformed with the 1.98% increase in their sector index with GARAN and HALKB leading peers. CCOLA, KOZAL, SAHOL, ASELS, TTKOM, and TKFEN topped the non-bank gainers while FROTO, ODAS, INDES, ISMEN, ZOREN, MPARK, and HEKTS were some of the fewer weak spots. Today, Treasury will reissue 12-month discount bonds and 6-year FRNs and separately offer 10-year CPI-indexed sukuk papers via direct sale in triple domestic borrowing actions today. Domestic redemption is TL23.56bn for the week while the Treasury has already raised TL8.68bn in the double auctions held yesterday. BIST seems headed for a flattish start in absence of major news or triggers in either direction. U.S. futures are almost unchanged while Asian indices are mostly trading in slight negative territory.
