Turkey Wake-up call: Macro, Political and Equity News, 8th September

BIST added 0.97% yesterday after a day totally spent in the positive territory. Index opened slightly higher, marking its intraday low, and gradually ascended to a close near the daily peak. Banks again lagged with the 0.37% gain in their sector index. EKGYO, TKFEN, TOASO, TTRAK, FROTO, PETKM, MPARK, INDES, AKSEN, and aviation names topped the non-bank gainers while ARCLK, VESTL, GUBRF, AEFES, DOAS, and BIMAS were among the handful of decliners for the day. Today, our local macro agenda is muted and eyes will be on peer markets as well as lira for a sense of direction. We accordingly foresee a slight positive start for the BIST given small gains in lira (USDTRY below the 7.46 mark vs 7.4647 at yesterday's closing bell) and the c.0.3% increase in U.S. futures.
