CMA CGM is the third-largest provider of container shipping services globally with a market share of 11.7%, behind Maersk (19%) and MSC (14.6%). It is geographically well diversified, operating c. 290 lines in different part of the world. It operates 494 container vessels with an average age of 7.5 years (vs.12.3 years for the industry) and an average size of 5,115 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) vs. 3,878 for the industry. In addition, 232 vessels - or 26% of its fleet by capacity - are chartered for less than a year, giving the company more flexibility than its competitors in the event of lower demand.
