Sisal, Italy’s No. 5 slot operator, reported good 3Q17 results with sales up 4% yoy to €198m while EBITDA jumped to €58m against €50m last year. The company is the sole operator to report growth for the period in gaming machines (43% of sales, +3% yoy) despite higher taxes since May. To do so, it has followed the trend of the sector by lowering its payout (winnings paid to players) to the legal minimum of 70%. However, the outperformance came from the optimization of its fleet, with the deployment of 150 additional video lottery terminals (VLTs), and the launch of new games. Sisal was thus able to attract more players than last year, unlike the sector’s two leading players IGT (No. 1) and Snaitech (No. 2).
