Water Tower Hour Recap: AI Nose for POCT Diagnostics and Much More
Jack Lu, Director of Corporate Development, joined us on the Water Tower Hour podcast to discuss the business and platform priorities. We focused on AI Nose technology and opportunities in healthcare and beyond. Those interested can listen to this podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or on our website. Link is accessible in our full report. Ainos business and priorities. The medtech company has three key technology platforms: (1) AI Nose point of care testing (POCT); (2) Low dose interferon-a Veldona; and (3) Synthetic RNA in early discovery stage. Priorities for AI Nose are Ainos Flora (POCT diagnostic for women vaginal health and STIs) and a health monitor system for elderly care in co-development. Veldona will focus on oral warts in HIV+ patients and Sjogren’s syndrome, in addition to cat FCGS (gum disease) for animal health. AI Nose makes VOC tests more consumer friendly. POCT devices powered by AI Nose analyze volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced from the body to sense a person’s health. Conventional VOC analyses are done in a lab setting with large, expensive machines. AI Nose uses advanced semiconductor technology to enable portable, highly scalable, and more affordable VOC tests. Digital Smell ID profiles of VOCs are analyzed through Ainos’ AI model to identify health-related conditions. Ainos Flora advantages over conventional STI tests. Designed for non-invasive testing, Ainos Flora is a hand-held, portable device, which provides better privacy, convenience, immediate results, and multiple uses. Current STI tests require invasive pelvic swaps, clinic visits for same-day results, while at-home testing takes days, and high costs for regular testing. STI test market opportunity. WHO estimates more than 1 million new STI infections a day globally. While US clinics conduct about 15.9 million STI tests per year, regular screening remains a challenge, as costs and convenience are hurdles for high-risk groups. STI test market is underserved, with POCT accounting for 31%, but growing as telehealth at-home testing increases in popularity. Opportunities beyond healthcare. VOC testing already occurs in monitoring air quality, car emissions, industrial production, and food and water contamination. AI Nose is scalable into multiple industries, as AI capability and tech advances enable smaller devices and better VOC analysis. AI has improved the digital senses, like sight, hearing, touch, and speech, but lagged in the ability to smell. AI Nose highlights the progress of digital smell detection and the significant long-term opportunities.
