Wins on Multiple Fronts: Partnerships, Contracts, and Geographic Expansion

We recently hosted CEO Philipp Stratmann on the WTR Sustainable Investing podcast. Those interested can listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Links are accessible in our full report. OPT has partnered with Unique Group, a UAE-based subsea technology company that aims to deploy OPT’s USVs in the UAE and GCC region. The partnership aims to develop a new GCC-specific USV model (WAM-V 22) that adheres to local safety regulations and prioritizes environmental efficiency. OPT, a developer of low-carbon marine power solutions, signed an OEM agreement with Teledyne Marine, a supplier of maritime equipment. This partnership aims to: (1) enhance OPT’s product offerings by integrating Teledyne’s technology (connectors, instruments, vehicles); (2) drive innovation in the marine technology industry; and (3) provide customers with more complete solutions (turnkey systems). The focus on “turnkey systems” suggests a shift toward offering more comprehensive solutions that combine OPT’s power technology with Teledyne’s data acquisition and underwater vehicle capabilities. OPT reached an agreement in principle to deliver multiple WAM-Vs to a US government agency. This is a sole-source contract with a fixed price and expected near-term delivery. OPT seems to be positioning itself as a provider of dual-use technology, applicable for both commercial and military purposes. OPT was chosen as the preferred supplier for a PowerBuoy equipped with its AI-powered “Merrows” system for maritime domain awareness in the Middle East, with revenue expected in the current quarter. The Middle East is seen as a promising market for Merrows. OPT successfully delivered the first batch of WAM-Vs (unmanned surface vehicles) to Sulmara under a previously announced $1.6 million contract. This delivery marks a major contractual milestone, triggering the start of lease payments for Sulmara. OPT secured a contract for immediate delivery of a WAM-V (unmanned surface vehicle) to an offshore construction contractor in Sub-Saharan Africa. The contract includes a spare vehicle system for on-site assembly.
Underlying
Ocean Power Technologies

Ocean Power Technologies is developing and commercializing its proprietary systems that generate electricity by harnessing the renewable energy of ocean waves. The company uses proprietary technologies that convert the mechanical energy created by the heaving motion of ocean waves into electricity. The company's principal product is its PB3 PowerBuoy?, which is designed to generate power for use independent of the power grid in remote offshore locations. It consists of a main hull structure loosely moored to the seabed and surrounded by a floating buoy-like device that can freely move up and down in response to the passage of the waves.
