The more than 600 new jobs in Miramar are part of Comcast’s focus on improving customer service as well as creating a culture focused on exceeding customers’ expectations. Comcast has already made significant improvements to the customer experience through employee trainings, creating new customer tools and significantly reducing customer wait times. As part of this work, the Company is creating more than 5,500 customer service jobs in the U.S.

Miramar is currently home to Comcast’s Spanish-language customer care “Center of Excellence,” which houses more than 300 customer account executives exclusively dedicated to serving Spanish-speaking consumers.

Among the new customer care team based in Miramar will be more than 160 representatives dedicated to providing superior technical support and service to Comcast Business small and medium business customers.

Governor Rick Scott said, “I am proud to announce that Comcast will be expanding in Florida and creating 600 new jobs for families in Miramar. I was also honored to recognize some of the many military members and veterans that have built careers at Comcast thanks to the company’s commitment to hiring our brave service members. Today’s announcement shows that our focus on economic development and making Florida the most business-friendly state in the nation is clearly keeping our state on track to becoming first for jobs. I look forward to seeing Comcast’s continued success across the state.”

“Comcast truly stands out for its continued investment in both our community and in the families whose lives will be positively impacted by these new jobs,” said Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam.

Also being announced today is Comcast’s signing of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Statement of Support confirming the company’s commitment to National Guard and Reserve employees in Florida and across the country.

“Comcast is proud to reaffirm our support for our employees who serve as members of the National Guard and Reserve,” said Carol Eggert, Comcast’s Senior Vice President of Military and Veteran Affairs. “We recognize that these men and women are invaluable both to our company and to our Nation’s defense. We highly value their skills and are proud to have thousands of members of the military community in all levels of the organization.”

In recognition of Comcast’s “extraordinary support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve,” Comcast was honored with the Seven Seals Award, which was given by ESGR. Additionally, last month ESGR announced that Comcast was one of 30 finalists selected from a pool of more than 3,000 applicants for the 2017 Department of Defense’s Employer Support Freedom Award. This award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.

Comcast NBCUniversal is on track to hire more than 10,000 members of the military community – Veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and Military Spouses - by the end of this year, meeting the goal of a three-year hiring commitment made in May 2015. As part of that pledge, military community employees are able to utilize a suite of benefits specific to their needs; for National Guard and Reserve members, this includes 15 days paid time off annually for their military training in addition to their normal paid time off. Additionally, if they are called to active duty, the company matches the difference between their military base pay and their Comcast salary, and provides continued benefits (health, 401(k), etc.) for up to three years.

Today’s announcements underscore Comcast’s strong commitment to Florida. Comcast employs more than 30,000 people in Florida, operating out of 314 total properties.

Since 1996, Comcast has invested more than $8.5 billion in technology and infrastructure in Florida as it continues to deliver some of the nation’s first and fastest multi-gigabit internet speeds for residential and business customers. Comcast offers businesses Ethernet services at speeds up to 100 Gbps. Last year, Comcast began offering consumers a residential multi-gigabit broadband service in the Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach and Jacksonville areas. In April, Comcast announced that it will offer DOCSIS 3.1-powered gigabit internet service in Florida using connections that are already in customers’ homes.

Comcast is an equal opportunity employer and offers extensive career-path options along with competitive pay, medical, dental and prescription benefits, retirement investment options, and free and discounted Comcast services.

In Partial Win for Cable, Trump Memoranda Appears to Protect CBRS

Late Friday, President Trump released a new Presidential Memoranda on 6G and Spectrum. While what the Memoranda said is largely a restatement of what we have previously reported, we think the most important element for investors is what it didn’t say; specifically, that by omission it appears to protect the spectrum known as the Citizens Band Radio Services (CBRS) currently used by cable (and others) for wireless services. In this note we provide an analysis of the Memoranda.
