Applications are Open for Future STEM Stars! Sign Up for the 2018 ComEd Icebox Derby Competition Before it Closes

Who wants to build a race car? ComEd is seeking 30 young women who have a passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to join us for the 2018 Icebox Derby, a competition involving teens from across Chicagoland to transform recycled refrigerators into electric and solar-enhanced racecars.

Applications are available now for ComEd's fifth-annual Icebox Derby on www.IceboxDerby.com. The application period will close on Friday, June 1. The application is open to any girl who is an Illinois resident between the ages of 13 and 18.

Every participant will receive a $1,500 scholarship for completing the program. Participants will work alongside ComEd mentors to build a fridge car and learn about practical applications of STEM in daily life. The competition will culminate with a once-in-a-lifetime experience as participants race their electric fridge cars at Daley Plaza in Chicago on Saturday, Aug. 4.

ComEd launched the annual Icebox Derby five years ago to educate and empower young women to explore careers in STEM and become the innovative workforce of the future. In addition to powering homes, businesses, and institutions across the Illinois, ComEd also continues to lead the conversation on the value of science and technology education. Women represent 48 percent of the US workforce, yet only 24 percent of jobs in STEM related fields. This problem, in part, stems from many female students lacking exposure to STEM and experiences that will build their confidence to pursue a career in the field.

“We are honored to support young women who are enthusiastic and curious about careers in STEM. The Icebox Derby is just one way we empower promising students and make a positive impact on their future,” said Anne Pramaggiore, president and CEO of ComEd. “It’s critical that we create awareness of STEM career opportunities and help to build a confident generation of women alongside a diverse and inclusive workforce of the future.”

Vermilion Compass: Weekly Equity Strategy

S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 Testing Initial Support In last week's 2/25/25 Compass, we discussed our expectation for near-term downside as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 (QQQ) displayed several bearish short-term developments. We also said it likely means at least another 2-4 weeks of consolidation, and that if the S&P 500 remains below 6100 and 6150 resistances, do not be surprised if there is a test of the bottom of the range at either 5770-5850 or 5600-5670, where we would be buyers (though we need 5...
