U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Honors ComEd with the 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award

ComEd has been named by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award winner. This award, which is the highest honor presented by ENERGY STAR, recognizes ComEd for its continued leadership in protecting its environment through superior energy efficiency achievements.

ENERGY STAR is a U.S. EPA voluntary program that helps businesses and individuals save money and protect our climate through superior energy efficiency. ComEd’s accomplishments will be recognized at the annual ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Awards in Washington, D.C. on April 26, 2017 where ComEd CEO Anne Pramaggiore will be the keynote speaker.

ComEd, an ENERGY STAR® partner for the past eight years, will be honored for their ongoing commitment to discount ENERGY STAR-certified LEDs for their customers and executing an awareness campaign promoting ENERGY STAR appliance rebates that resulted in 53,600 rebates valued at more than $2.8 million in savings. The award also recognizes the significant increase in owners and operators of commercial and multi-family buildings using the ComEd created Energy Usage Data system tool.

“ComEd values our partnership with ENERGY STAR and we are honored to once again receive this recognition for our efforts in energy efficiency,” said Val Jensen, senior vice president, Customer Operations at ComEd. “ComEd has one of the largest and most comprehensive energy efficiency programs in the country, offering our customers a variety of initiatives that help them reduce energy use and contribute to a cleaner environment. As we grow our efficiency programs, we look forward to continuing to partner with ENERGY STAR to help our customers save even more energy and money.”

In 2015 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners saved American businesses and consumers 503 billion kilowatt hours and $34 billion dollars on their energy bills, while achieving broad emission reductions.

In 2016, ComEd customers saved more than $137 million through ComEd Energy Efficiency Program initiatives. Since the program’s inception, customers have saved more than $2.4 billion in energy costs and 21.5 million megawatt hours of energy – enough to power more than 2.3 million homes for a year.

ComEd has been recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency for its energy efficiency programs for eight straight years and this will be the fifth consecutive year of being named an ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for Sustained Excellence.

The 2017 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards are bestowed upon a diverse set of organizations that have demonstrated continued leadership in energy efficiency. Winners range from small, family-owned businesses to Fortune 500 organizations – representing energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors.
