SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
InvenSense, Inc. (NYSE:INVN), a leading provider of MEMS sensor platforms, today announced that the recently released ICM-20602 6-axis inertial sensor (3-axis accelerometer + 3-axis gyroscope) targeted for Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality/Head Mounted Display (AR/VR/HMD) applications is being used in Daydream-ready and Tango enabled smartphones. InvenSense’s sensor solutions deliver on the key parameters of sensitivity, sensitivity response (SR), sensitivity error, offset vs temperature, and sensitivity drift vs temperature, bringing a superior VR and AR experience.
VR/AR is still largely in the early stages of technological development yet requires a very high-performance IMU to secure the smallest possible motion-to-photon latency which helps in delivering a comfortable VR experience. Google’s initiatives with Daydream and Tango have accelerated the development of VR/AR software, hardware and applications, bringing to the market a platform for a higher quality AR/VR experience. As the leading MEMS sensor provider, InvenSense has achieved the needed high performances for both Daydream and Tango with the ICM-20602– passing the Android 7.x HiFi requirements. The new ICM-20602 and the previously introduced ICM-20690 have been launched in the marketplace with Daydream-ready and Tango enabled smartphones.
“Pushing the boundaries with the sole aim of providing the best possible VR and AR experiences to end-users, is at the core of everything we do at InvenSense,” explained Nicolas Sauvage, Senior Director, Ecosystem at InvenSense. “Working very closely with Google’s Daydream and Tango teams has helped us really focus on the most important performance factors that translate in the best possible end-user experience, and helped contribute a superior experience towards our OEMs Daydream-ready and Tango-ready devices.”
In addition, Virtual Reality devices from Facebook Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Augmented Reality devices from Microsoft HoloLens, and other Chinese VR/AR companies all use various InvenSense motion sensors. In addition to the excellent performance in hardware, InvenSense’s software algorithms available in the previously introduced ICM-20603 help the OEM to achieve faster time to market by delivering:
- 1KHz ODR Sensor Fusion – Low Latency high rate sensor fusion with accurate orientation for head-tracking applications
- In-run Calibration – Constant calibration of Accel/gyro/mag bias over time and temperature by normal VR movie and gaming head motions
- Predictive Quaternion – Accurate calculation of the look-ahead orientation to compensate for the rendering delay inherent in application processors (Aps) or PCs.
The InvenSense 6-axis ICM-20602 is currently available in mass production (MP). The InvenSense 6-axis ICM-20603 HMD/VR solution is sampling today to key customers. For additional information and data sheets, please visit www.invensense.com or contact InvenSense Sales at [email protected].
