MEDNAX in Collaboration with Memorial Regional Hospital Earns National Accreditation for Adult Congenital Heart Program

MEDNAX, Inc. (NYSE: MD), the national health solutions partner specializing in anesthesiology, neonatology, maternal-fetal medicine, other pediatric services, radiology and management services, is pleased to announce that in partnership with Memorial Regional Hospital, it has achieved national accreditation from the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) for its Adult Congenital Heart Program. MEDNAX-affiliated pediatric and adult congenital cardiologist, Todd S. Roth, M.D., serves as Co-Director of the program.

Memorial Regional Hospital’s program is the first in Florida and 17th in the country to receive this recognition from ACHA, a nationwide organization focused on connecting patients, family members and health care providers to form a community of support and network of experts with knowledge of congenital heart disease (CHD). The program received accreditation following a detailed site visit from ACHA to verify its ability to meet the organization’s strict criteria, which include comprehensive medical services, patient resources and personnel requirements.

Advancements in cardiac diagnostics and improved surgical techniques have allowed patients born with congenital CHD to live longer. There are now more adults living with CHD than children, with an estimated 1.5 million Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) patients in the United States. This growing number illustrates the demand for targeted medical training to meet the distinct changes and challenges adult patients face. MEDNAX has met that need through its commitment to providing patients with the full continuum of care through board certified experts who specialize in offering the highest quality outpatient treatment.

“MEDNAX’s partnership with Memorial Regional Hospital enhances our ability to provide continuous personalized care for adult patients with CHD,” said Dr. Roth. “We work together as an interdisciplinary team comprised of cardiologists, surgeons and support staff on both the pediatric and adult sides to offer a comprehensive medical home along the entire spectrum of CHD, placing special emphasis on caring for adult patients in a way that recognizes their unique needs while focusing on continuity of care and long-term follow-up.”

MEDNAX Cardiology is a national provider of inpatient and outpatient cardiology care of the fetus, infant, child and adolescent, as well as adults with congenital heart disease. Board certified in pediatric cardiology and adult congenital heart disease, Dr. Roth has directed the care of ACHD patients in South Florida since 2015. In addition to co-directing the Memorial Regional Hospital/Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital ACHD Center, he also directs its ACHD cardiopulmonary exercise lab. Dr. Roth has a special interest in quality of life measures among adult patients with congenital heart disease and is currently interested in investigating the impact exercise and dietary modifications have on quality of life and outcomes in ACHD patients.
