Navigant Expands Global Operational Excellence and Regulatory Support within Energy Segment

Today, Navigant announced four senior professionals have joined the company’s growing global Energy segment. Mehrdod Mohseni, managing director; John Donleavy, senior executive advisor; Trina Horner, director; and Stephen Pearce, director, provide forward-thinking insights to clients navigating the complexity within today’s energy sector.

Mohseni supports utility clients by leveraging in-depth grid modernization consulting and systems integration expertise, while Donleavy looks to implement operational excellence and growth initiatives among utilities. Pearce broadens Navigant’s footprint in the Middle East, applying his background in supply chain management and process improvement, and Horner uses her expertise in energy policy and regulatory decision-making processes to assist clients in identifying the best path forward.

“The energy landscape is evolving and Navigant is pleased to have Mehrdod, John, Steve, and Trina on board to help our clients take control of their future,” says Jan Vrins, managing director and leader of Navigant’s Global Energy segment. “During this industry transition, I am confident in their ability to anticipate where the industry is headed and will help clients improve performance, grow, and address consumer and regulatory demands.”

Mehrdod Mohseni, managing director, Atlanta, Georgia

As a member of Navigant’s Grid Modernization team, Mohseni assists utility clients in transforming their operations and systems to support the rapidly changing needs of customers, markets, and competitive environments. He advises on emerging distribution and transmission technologies, grid operations and automation upgrades, and change management for successful program implementation. An expert in systems and operational efficiency applications, Mohseni offers insight in the areas of smart metering infrastructure, meter data management systems, grid analytics, mobile workforce management systems, and other related areas. Prior to joining Navigant, Mohseni served as the chief commercial officer of Ping Things, Inc., where he was responsible for building a global practice to successfully launch and implement a predictive analytics platform for the energy industry. Mohseni has also served as CEO and president of Utility Integration Solutions, Inc. (UISOL), chief marketing officer of GE Digital Energy, and senior vice president and general manager at Enspiria Solutions, Inc., a company he founded jointly. In addition to having more than 26 years of industry experience, Mohseni is a registered Professional Engineer and a senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

John Donleavy, senior executive advisor, Burlington, Massachusetts

A senior executive advisor on Navigant’s Performance Excellence team, Donleavy leads transmission and distribution business transformation projects, as well as major reorganization and process improvement programs. He advises public and investor-owned utilities on metric-driven stabilization and growth initiatives and works to optimize their financial results. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in utility operations and construction, he supports utility C-suite business development, strategic planning and investment client teams. Prior to joining Navigant, Donleavy was executive vice president and chief operating officer for National Grid USA, where he led operations and had executive oversight for physical security, cyber security, and business continuity. He has also managed his own firm, Lafayette Power Consulting, and served as President and CEO of Vermont Electric Power Company, as well as in senior roles at Exelon Corporation and Commonwealth Edison. Donleavy has served on the boards of North American Transmission Forum, Edison Electric Institute, and the Center for Energy Workforce Development.

Trina Horner, director, San Francisco, California

After more than 20 years in the energy and water utility industries, Horner uses her experience to support the Energy segment’s strategy and regulatory advisory services. She draws on her familiarity in addressing utilities’ regulatory, strategic, governance, and operational issues to add value and leadership to existing engagements, while broadening teams’ strategic and operational expertise. Prior to joining Navigant, she served in related roles of increasing responsibility, evaluating proposals and overseeing efforts on utility procurement resource recovery, revenue requirements, cost allocation mechanisms, load forecasting, and rate design. Horner spent five years as advisor and chief of staff to the president of the California Public Utilities Commission, developing policy goals and priorities with commissioners and senior leadership. She has also served as vice president of proceedings and rates at Pacific Gas & Electric Company and as the interim environmental affairs officer at the East Bay Municipal Utility District.

Stephen Pearce, director, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Having created strong ties with industry players across the Middle East, Pearce’s role within Navigant’s Energy segment builds upon the Firm’s strong local delivery capability in business strategy, regulations, operations and performance improvement throughout the region. Pearce focuses on developing long-term client relationships in the oil, gas, and electric utilities markets, particularly in Saudi Arabia. After more than 15 years in energy industry, Pearce brings a deep understanding of enterprise-wide process integration and supply chain, directly relevant to the needs of energy companies in the Middle East. Prior to joining Navigant, Pearce was a partner at Wipro, responsible for the value chain offering for India, the Middle East, and Africa. He has also worked for Accenture on global integration, program management, enterprise program office and supply chain process assignments.
