Petrobras: Mixed Q3, but bonds still attractive; reiterate Buy

Petrobras reported a mixed Q3 19, despite maintaining production volumes yoy (and increasing them qoq). The key reason for the disappointment was the lower Brent (which averaged US$61.9/b in Q3 19 compared with US$75.3/b in Q3 18) and crude oil sales prices (US$58.1/b in Q3 19 versus US$70.1/b in Q3 18). The domestic basic oil products price was US$73.1/b in Q3 versus US$83.4/b a year ago and US$78.5/b in Q2.

Vermilion Short Shots: Technically Vulnerable Stocks

Short Shots is a collection of technically vulnerable charts culled from the Negative Inflecting and Toppy columns within our Weekly Compass report or from various technical screening processes. The charts contained in this report have developed concerning technical patterns that suggest further price deterioration is likely. For these reasons Short Shots can also be a great source of ideas for investors interested in short-selling candidates.

Petrobras: Initiation – Operational and financial strength, with a positive business outlook

We initiate coverage of Petroleos Brasileiros or Petrobras’ family of bonds with a Buy recommendation (ticker: PETBRA). While this might seem counter-intuitive on a relative value basis, considering that PETBRA bonds are trading tighter than higher-rated peer PEMEX, we base our recommendation on the trend. We expect Petrobras to continue to improve, strengthen its balance sheet further and carry on increasing production, which should be rewarded by investors with higher bond prices.
