Sallie Mae Continues Monthly $1,000 Plan for College Sweepstakes

Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company, will again offer students and families a little extra incentive to start planning for college. Sallie Mae’s Plan for College Sweepstakes awards $1,000 monthly to individuals who register for the company’s free college planning tools.

Sallie Mae offers an array of free planning-for-college tools, including the College Planning Calculator, which helps students and families research college costs and build a customized savings plan, and Scholarship Search by Sallie Mae, a customizable scholarship tool with access to 5 million scholarships valued at $24 billion. Registering for the tools is free, and Sallie Mae does not sell or share any information with third-parties.

The following high school and college students received $1,000 for college in 2016 through the Sallie Mae Plan for College Sweepstakes:

  • Allison House of Coral Springs, Florida
  • Kiara Moore of San Antonio, Texas
  • Emma Tarawally of Claymont, Delaware
  • Melissa Shaffer of Ephraim, Utah
  • Jariatu Koroma of Greenbelt, Maryland
  • Timothy Shields of Houston, Texas
  • Karla Eslava of Cicero, Illinois
  • Haley Wieland of Orlando, Florida
  • Christine Rivera of Orlando, Florida
  • Ziasia Simon of Bronx, New York
  • Mario Baldwin-McCurdy of Bothell, Washington

In addition, Imani Troy of Lexington, North Carolina, received $5,000 as the sweepstakes winner for National Scholarship Month—November.

“The research is clear, families with a plan to pay for college save significantly more and borrow less,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “Our monthly sweepstakes provides a little extra help to families for getting on the planning-for-college track.”

Sallie Mae recommends following a 1-2-3 approach when it comes to paying for college: first, maximize money that does not need to be repaid, such as scholarships and grants; second, explore federal student loans; and, third, consider a responsible private student loan.

For official sweepstakes rules, visit Plan for College Sweepstakes. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. Odds of winning depend upon number of entries received.

Short Shots is a collection of technically vulnerable charts culled from the Negative Inflecting and Toppy columns within our Weekly Compass report or from various technical screening processes. The charts contained in this report have developed concerning technical patterns that suggest further price deterioration is likely. For these reasons Short Shots can also be a great source of ideas for investors interested in short-selling candidates.
