Hartford Courant Leadership Outlines Path Forward, Voluntarily Recognizes Newsroom Union

HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 15, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Hartford Courant (Tribune Publishing Company (NASDAQ:TPCO)) today outlined the company’s priorities and recent accomplishments, and voluntarily agreed to recognize a union representing certain newsroom employees.

“Our future success will stem from our relentless focus on our readers,” said Andrew Julien, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, in a letter sent to all newsroom employees. “This is a time for people who are willing to understand the issues in all their complexities to be part of the solution.”

Julien’s letter called for broad cooperation in charting the Courant’s future, a commitment to digital innovation, and a belief in journalism’s ability to improve people’s lives. Julien highlighted recent awards for The Courant – including Newspaper of the Year by the New England Newspaper and Press Association, and New England First Amendment Coalition’s Michael Donoghue Freedom of Information Award – as well as investments in reporters and the newsroom.

The company has agreed to voluntarily recognize the Hartford Courant Guild as the representative of certain newsroom employees at the Hartford Courant and Courant Community. No date has been set for the beginning of contract negotiations.
