Link Labs to Power New Category M1 Internet of Things Applications on Verizon's LTE Network

Link Labs, a leading innovator in low-power, wide-area network technologies that power the Internet of Things, announced today that it is developing a Cat M1 Sensor Suite planned for later this year for the Verizon LTE network. Link Labs will integrate the Sequans Monarch chipset into both OEM systems and a fully integrated Sensor Suite.

The Link Labs LTE-M1 Sensor Suite will offer an open source hardware and software platform to accelerate solution development and lower costs for manufacturers and solution providers. The Sensor Suite is based on Link Labs software which makes utilizing the low power features of LTE-M1 easy to implement out of the box. The Link Labs solution also makes use of the Verizon Thingspace platform for device provisioning and management.

“Link Labs is proud to be among the first to enable a whole new class of Internet of Things products by using the Verizon Network,” said Link Labs Founder, Brian Ray. “Verizon and Sequans have been incredibly supportive of our efforts to remove the cellular gateway from IoT use cases. It is truly amazing to see a battery-powered device with LTE connectivity that can last for more than 5 years for certain use cases on a small battery.”

The new LTE Cat M1 powered Sensor Suite is a set of around a dozen highly integrated sensor and controller devices ready for use on the Verizon LTE network right out of the box. With the LTE-M1 Sensor Suite, customers can pilot LTE-M1 based solutions in under a day, instead of the months traditionally needed to build new connected devices.

“LTE Cat M1 technology addresses the battery life, coverage and cost challenges posed by many IoT use cases and we expect it will be a game changer for the industry. We are pleased to see Link Labs bringing a solution to market that will demonstrate just how profoundly disruptive this new technology is,” said Chris Schmidt, Executive Director Device Technology at Verizon.

“Link Labs is a true innovator in IoT, and was quick to recognize the importance of having a fully-optimized, purpose-built LTE Cat M1 chip for their sensor ecosystem, a use case for which LTE Cat M1 technology is ideally suited. We are excited to partner with them,” said Georges Karam, Sequans’s CEO. “LTE Cat M1 technology is vital to the success of LTE for the IoT market and the new Sequans-powered Link Labs Sensor Suite will signal the arrival of a new wave of innovative IoT devices.”
