Verizon announces strategic agreement with Mutualink

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Taking a step in the direction of providing comprehensive interoperability for public safety, Verizon, a leading innovator in public safety communications, has teamed with Mutualink to provide interoperable critical communications solutions that will allow first responders and related entities to securely connect their organization’s networks to communicate and share real time video and critical information. Mutualink is an easily deployable service compatible with virtually any device and network, based on a software centric model that removes hardware dependencies, allowing connections between smartphones, video cameras, land mobile radios (LMRs), etc.

“In times of emergency and crisis, it is important for everyone – first responders from different agencies, schools, hospitals and others – to have real time, on demand cross-agency communications. Mutualink allows Verizon to provide that level of communication to our customers,” said Mike Maiorana, senior vice president, public sector, Verizon. “Working with Mutualink further illustrates Verizon’s commitment to interoperability.”

According to Mark Hatten, Mutualink’s chief executive officer/chairman, the strategic agreement is a significant step towards solving the nation’s emergency communications interoperability challenges.

“We live in a complex and interdependent society where the ability for agencies to communicate and collaborate on-demand in a crisis, whether large or small, is critical,” said Hatten. “This agreement demonstrates Verizon’s commitment to helping deliver what first responders have been asking for – true interoperability for almost any device on any network.”

Verizon powers the nation’s largest and most reliable 4G LTE network, covering more than 2.5 million square miles and more than 98% of Americans with a more than 450,000 square mile coverage advantage over the nearest competitor. Since 2000, Verizon has invested more than $126 billion in its network. Verizon offers first responders access to its public safety private core, a software-defined network that intelligently manages traffic between commercial and public safety customers. Verizon also offers priority and preemption services and enhanced service management and control. Verizon is committed to supporting interoperability and open technology standards with other wireless providers who provide public safety products and solutions.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE, Nasdaq: VZ), headquartered in New York City, generated $126 billion in 2017 revenues. The company operates America’s most reliable wireless network and the nation’s premier all-fiber network, and delivers integrated solutions to businesses worldwide.
