“We are truly grateful to Pittcon Today magazine and to the judges for this award. Since the introduction of the ACQUITY QDa Mass Detector in 2013, the barriers that once prevented scientists from having immediate access to mass data have come down," said Dr. Mike Harrington, Senior Vice President, Global Markets, Waters Corporation. “Whether used for reducing method development times, improving the efficiency of compound purification workflows or even for teaching the fundamentals of MS to undergraduates in academic institutes, the ACQUITY QDa continues to broaden the accessibility of mass data to our LC customers.”

The award winners were determined by a blue chip panel of experts consisting of thought leaders across academia, industry and trade media. Judges evaluated entries based on ingenuity, creativity, implementation and outcomes with the principal criterion being the projected impact the product will have on the industry and the world.

About the Waters® ACQUITY QDa Mass Detector

The ACQUITY QDa Detector is a small, easy-to-use and affordable mass detector that brings high-quality mass spectral information to chromatographic separations at the push of a button. Mass spectral information greatly enhances chemical compound identification, something that is very important to laboratories doing method development, sample profiling, chemical synthesis and purification.

Launched in 2013, the Waters ACQUITY QDa Mass Detector has fundamentally changed the way chromatographers and other scientists think of mass spectrometry and the confidence they have in their data. For the first time, they have a mass detector that can gives them instantaneous mass spectral data on every sample component; no longer are they required to send out samples to a mass spectrometry lab for nominal mass data.

In an article published by Merck1, the authors pointed to utility of the QDa Detector for reaction monitoring, impurity identification, trace genotoxic impurity quantitation and biomolecule assays. They further state the recent development of this type of detector has enabled the “rollout of this important technology well beyond the initial user base of researchers in drug metabolism and bioanalysis to the direct support of research areas such as discovery chemistry, process chemistry, chemical engineering, manufacturing and formulation sciences.”

The QDa Detector is covered by 30+ patents, was recognized as a top innovation for 2013 by The Analytical Scientist magazine and won a Pittcon Editors Silver Award in 2014.

Crucial support levels of 6480-6520 on SPX and $580-$583 on QQQ held last week, and we are right back to being near-term bullish as long as these support levels continue to hold. Just know that SPX could see...

Vermilion Compass: Weekly Equity Strategy

6550-6569 S&P 500 Support Holding For Now After 5.5-months, the S&P 500 (SPX) has now failed to break and stay below the its 20-day MA. However, 6569 has been our level that needs to break in order for us to have confidence that a pullback has begun; SPX made a low of 6551 on Friday (less than 20 points or 0.3% from our 6569 level), meaning it was not a decisive breakdown (in time or price). As a result, our near-term bullish outlook since our 4/22/25 Compass remains intact, and it will stay t...
