IBERIAN DAILY 20 DECEMBER (ANÁLISIS BANCO SABADELL)

NEWS SUMMARY: ACERINOX, CELLNEX, CIE AUTOMOTIVE, SANTANDER.

The market does not welcome fewer rate cuts
European stock markets ended with corrections of -1.5% after the Fed cooled off expectations of further rate cuts over the coming months. Thus, in the STOXX 600 all sectors closed with drops, with Food and Energy being the best performers whereas Real Estate and Technology saw the biggest drops. On the macro side, in the UK, the BoE kept interest rates at 4.75% although the decision was not unanimous. In Spain, the new tax on the banking sector went through, as opposed to that of the energy sector. In the US, the final 3Q’24 GDP improved unexpectedly to 3.1% q/qa although weekly jobless claims moderated more than expected, December’s Philadelphia Fed index deteriorated unexpectedly and existing home sales rose in November slightly more than expected. On the political front, the imminent partial shutdown stands out after the Republicans did not manage to approve the financing proposal backed by D. Trump. In Japan, November’s inflation climbed slightly more than expected to 2.7% YoY with the core data rising to 2.4% YoY, as expected. In China, the PBoC kept 1 & 5Y interest rates unchanged.
