Commercial Bank of Qatar - Squeezed by NIMs and CoR

  • Q3 earnings slip into red with net losses of QAR -1m as CBQ increases its loan loss charges massively on its corporate book (driven by its CRE exposure in our view, with CoR increasing to 255bps with a sharp increase in NPLs), with new CEO starting with clean slate.
  • Loan loss charges to remain elevated in the next few quarters as CBQ builds a sustainable earnings stream.
  • Operating profit -10% y/y on sharp margin compression.
  • The bank is completing a review of its strategy with more details to follow in its Investor Day next month. We remain sceptical on a possible turnaround.
