BGC Partners: Under/Over loved Turkish stocks
Given the recent volatility, it is time to revisit the level of enthusiasm as well as the distaste for large cap stocks on Borsa Istanbul (BIST). Our screening tool relies on analyst perceptions and foreign investors’ ownership. Stocks tend to out- and under-perform the broad market until a catalyst, which could be in the form of earnings surprises or disappointment, M&A news, new equity supply, or a sudden change in the operating environment can lead to the reversal of fortunes in the company. Yet, we believe that the level of foreign investor interest as well as analyst ratings also carry significant information value as a change in perception can lead to a sharp reversal in share prices as well.
