Illinois American Water Recognized by Peoria Area Labor Management and Tri-County Construction Labor Management Councils

Each year Peoria Area Labor Management Council (PALM) and Tri-County Construction Labor Management Council (TRICON) recognize the accomplishments of individuals and organizations in the community and union construction industry at an annual awards dinner. Three Illinois American Water employees were recognized at the 30th Annual Award banquet on March 28, 2017.

Roger Goodson, senior manager of field operations and production, was awarded the 2017 Construction Person of the Year award. According to PALM and TRICON, this award is presented to the person who has made outstanding contributions to the union construction industry, especially by improving labor-management relations.

According to Kevin Carter, Executive Director with PALM/TRICON, “Since the mid-80’s TRICON has recognized exceptional construction leaders who are well-liked and respected by their peers, who employ cooperation to achieve goals, who willingly volunteer, and who are passionate about the success of the industry.”

Goodson said of the honor, “I am honored to be recognized with this award and I’m proud of the great working relationships Illinois American Water has with all of the building trade unions in Central Illinois but especially for the relationship we have with our union employees. They are the best of the best - the unsung heroes - working in inclement weather and around the clock. They make me proud every day.”

Peoria area Laborer Local 165 union employees Dan Barrett, field service representative, and Mike Henry, backhoe operator, were also recognized. Barret was recognized with the Building a Better Community award for his work in the community, specifically raising funds and collecting toys for the Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI). Barret’s son, Brady, joined him in receiving the award. Both share a passion for giving back to the community and CHOI.

According to PALM and TRICON, “There are those among us who go above and beyond their everyday tasks to improve the quality of life for everyone. They put others before self, bring joy and pride to diverse populations, and work hard to make central Illinois a great place to live, work and play. These ambitious leaders aren’t afraid to lead in unconventional ways and facilitate cooperation to accomplish goals that benefit central Illinois.”

The Safety Award was presented to Henry for his efforts to promote safety within the construction industry and his conscientious safety efforts. Goodson said, “There’s nothing more important than our team going home in the same condition as they arrived at work. Safety heroes like Mike are invaluable to our team.”

PALM and TRICON have been bringing labor and management together to build strong relationships, produce superior products, create and maintain a qualified workforce, develop innovative ideas, give back to the community, and help make Central Illinois a great place to live and work.
