Barclays Encore! Program Helps Professionals Re-Enter the Finance Industry in New York and London

Barclays today announces that registration for its New York Encore! program is officially open for applicants who want to participate in the 10-week program focused on workforce re-entry. Now in its second year, Barclays is building on the success of its inaugural New York class to this year include its London office, giving greater opportunities to more participants in the two largest financial capitals in the world.

Encore! provides returners with the opportunity to refresh their professional skills through leadership and development training, mentorship, networking opportunities, and a paid working role for the program’s duration.

“Finding tangible solutions for workforce re-entry is mission-critical,” says Barbara Byrne, Vice Chairman in Banking. “Encore! expands Barclays' talent pool with returners who bring unique life experiences and perspectives to managing and navigating the workplace. After the successful pilot in New York, we are excited to broaden the program through a transatlantic approach. Scaling Encore! not only expands the pipeline of candidates but also helps to increase diversity at the firm.”

Potential candidates in New York can now complete the application form on the Encore! Website. The application form will be open for London applicants on September 18. Applicants will undergo an initial qualification screening by the Barclays Resourcing team, followed by interviews in October and November. The ten-week paid program for successful candidates in both New York and London will begin in January 2018.

“Many people have different skill sets, experiences, and diverse perspectives,” adds former Encore! Fellow Clare Pickering, now a Vice President in Municipals Strategy and Research at Barclays. “Even if you weren’t in financial services but you managed people or were in operations, for example, you can easily build on that experience in Encore!”

Candidates for the program should meet the following criteria:

  • Must have achieved the equivalent of a VP level or above when previously in the workforce.
  • Must have taken at least a one-year career break.
  • Must be able to commit to working full-time in the Barclays’ New York office for the full 10 weeks and have an interest in a full-time position with Barclays after the program ends.

Vermilion Compass: Weekly Equity Strategy

S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 Breaking Out We are seeing signs that this 2+ month consolidation in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 (QQQ) is ready to break out to the upside. Part of that is the obvious; both the SPX and QQQ are breaking out to marginal new highs. The other part that has kept us bullish this whole time is that market dynamics have remained risk-on, which we have discussed on a weekly basis. Bottom line: our outlook remains bullish as long as the S&P 500 remains above 5770-5850. Our recommen...
