Comcast Volunteers to Help Clean, Paint and Landscape at Nova Center During Comcast Cares Day 2017

On Saturday, April 22, from 8 a.m. to Noon, more than 150 local Comcast employees, family members, friends and community partners will “Make Change Happen” while volunteering at Nova Center, 8401 Hickman Mills Dr. in Independence, as part of the 16th annual Comcast Cares Day.

“As we celebrate another Comcast Cares Day, we are very proud to partner with Nova Center to give back to our community,” said Jeff Freyer, Comcast regional vice president. “It’s truly amazing what’s possible when hundreds of volunteers donate their time to make a difference in the lives of others. I’m inspired by the community’s response to Comcast Cares Day, and am so thankful for the participants who help to make this effort a success today and throughout the year.”

This year’s Comcast Cares Day volunteers will include a group from the Kansas City offices of Accenture. The participants will work on a variety of projects at Nova Center, including cleaning, painting, organizing supplies and landscape maintenance. Nova Center provides education services to children and young adults ages 4-21 from more than 16 area school districts, utilizing the center’s unique resources to help meet their educational, emotional and behavioral needs. The volunteers will also assemble snack packs during the event to distribute to area Boys and Girls Clubs.

"We want to extend our gratitude and excitement to the Comcast Cares Day volunteers for this amazing opportunity to improve the look and condition of our school building,” remarked Georgette Elder, principal, Nova Center School. “We have never had this kind of offer before and are so very thankful for their hard work and dedication; we feel fortunate to be selected as a part of Comcast Cares Day. The work of these volunteers would take us years to accomplish on our own, and we will be forever grateful."

Comcast Cares Day is more than just a day – it’s the culmination of Comcast NBCUniversal’s commitment to volunteerism that began when the company was founded more than 50 years ago. From using technology to create positive change, such as teaching digital literacy skills, to mentoring youth, to beautifying parks, Comcast NBCUniversal employees volunteer on this day, and throughout the year, to make a lasting impact.

This year, the Company expects more than 100,000 volunteers to participate in approximately 900 projects across the country and around the world. To date, volunteers have contributed nearly 5 million volunteer hours at 7,700 projects since Comcast Cares Day began in 2001.

The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $20 million in grants to local non-profit organizations who have served as partners on Comcast Cares Day.

Additionally, Comcast will once again fold in the broad support and amplification of Global Citizen and Red Nose Day, organizations aiming to end extreme poverty globally and in the United States. These organizations use the universal language of music and entertainment as a vehicle to engage people around the world to make a difference. By amplifying our support of these initiatives on Comcast Cares Day, Comcast NBCUniversal is providing additional ways to help drive positive change in our communities.

In Partial Win for Cable, Trump Memoranda Appears to Protect CBRS

Late Friday, President Trump released a new Presidential Memoranda on 6G and Spectrum. While what the Memoranda said is largely a restatement of what we have previously reported, we think the most important element for investors is what it didn’t say; specifically, that by omission it appears to protect the spectrum known as the Citizens Band Radio Services (CBRS) currently used by cable (and others) for wireless services. In this note we provide an analysis of the Memoranda.
