Comcast Accelerates Virtualization and AI Technologies Throughout the Nation’s Largest and Fastest Network Using DriveNets Network Cloud

and today announced that Comcast will use DriveNets’ Network Cloud solution to expand the trial of Janus, its initiative to virtualize and embed AI innovation through the core of its network to maximize performance and continue delivering superior Internet connectivity. Comcast launched the first trial of Janus in Atlanta in September 2024, making it one of the first network operators in the world to virtualize and disaggregate the core of its transport network to further enhance the flexibility, reliability, and resiliency of its connectivity offerings for both Xfinity and Comcast Business customers.

“The five biggest moments ever on our network happened in the final six weeks of 2024. Our customers are consuming more data, faster, than ever before and we’re driving network virtualization and AI innovation to meet and exceed their expectations now and into the future,” said Elad Nafshi, Chief Network Officer, Comcast. “Expanding the Janus trial across our footprint will transform how we manage the flow of Internet traffic to and from customers to maximize network performance, reliability, and efficiency. Leveraging DriveNets Network Cloud allows us to accelerate product innovation and continue to meet the incredible demand.”

DriveNets’ cloud-based capabilities allow Comcast to independently manage the hardware and software that make up its network, also known as “disaggregation”. Separating these functions unlocks the ability to virtualize every layer of the network – from the core to the edge – and perform those tasks in the cloud. This software-defined approach maximizes network performance, makes it easier to integrate AI-powered self-healing capabilities, enables more dynamic improvements to the customer experience, and is expected to improve efficiency.

“DriveNets enables Comcast to converge and automate its network infrastructure end-to-end so it can scale faster to meet growing service demands,” said Ido Susan, DriveNets founder and CEO. “The combination of our cloud-native software and the adoption of GenAI network operations tools enables Comcast to optimize the network performance, increase network reliability, and introduce new service innovations faster.”

Janus is intended to further enhance the performance, reliability, and efficiency of Comcast’s network:

  • Enabling the network to scale capacity seamlessly, faster and with the lowest possible latency for live-streamed events, so customers never miss a beat. This is increasingly important as more sporting events are moving to streaming with each new season.
  • Enhancing network reliability by allowing pinpoint visibility into where an issue has occurred and eliminating the manual work required to fix it. It also enables AI and machine learning operations and performance optimizations, end-to-end, across Comcast’s entire broadband network.
  • Helping reduce Comcast’s footprint with power-efficient virtualized compute platforms that shrink the space occupied within network facilities, reducing the amount of electricity required to power and cool them.

Ultimately, Janus will transform the way the nation’s largest network, accessible to more than 64 million locations nationwide, delivers next-generation Internet experiences.
