HomeStreet Bank’s Mona Choy-Beddow Accepts Illustrious Banking Industry Honor

Mona Choy-Beddow, Senior Vice President and Hawaii Regional Manager for HomeStreet Bank, was recently honored by the Pacific Business News in the category of Industry Leaders. This is the second time Mona has been named as an honoree in the Women Who Mean Business category and it speaks to Mona’s prestigious reputation on the Hawaiian Islands, as well as HomeStreet Bank’s continuous efforts to promote diversity in its workforce.

The publication awarded individuals on the basis of leadership within their respective industries and within their organizations. A further requirement was that award recipients had to exemplify an extraordinary commitment to community service. In the 17 years Choy-Beddow has been with HomeStreet Bank she has been instrumental in the growth of the highly successful publicly traded bank. In the last two years alone Mona has grown deposits on the Hawaiian Islands approximately 20%.

HomeStreet Bank has supported the Hawaiian market financially and through countless volunteer hours of community service. In 2016, the bank provided grants to 16 non-profits for a total of $82,755. Further, HomeStreet management sits on the board of 16 community organizations.

“I feel honored and excited to receive this prestigious award,” said Choy-Beddow. “I am extremely appreciative that Pacific Business News is recognizing women for their work in their local communities. These women are leaders in their fields, and they are too often not recognized for their hard work and contributions.”

Mona is a fixture in the Island Community. She is currently President for the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Honolulu and has served on its Executive Board for five years. She is also the Secretary of Family Programs of Hawaii, and has been Interim Treasurer and on its Board of Directors since 2010. Since 2014, she has served as a Treasurer of the Hawaii First for Continuity, and she has been an Executive Committee Member of the Hawaii Banker’s Association since 2004. Additionally, she is Board Member of Women’s Fund of Hawaii and most recently was elected as Director at Large for the Organization of Women Leaders.

“The entire organization is extremely proud of Mona for receiving this honor. She embodies the commitment to community and service that all of our employees strive for,” said Mark Mason, President and CEO of HomeStreet Bank. “Her commitment to community is directly in line with HomeStreet’s mission to be a contributing member of the communities in which we serve.”

This is not Choy-Beddow’s first award. She was selected as the 2015 “Women of the Year” by the Organization of Women Leaders. She was also one of fifteen finalists selected by Pacific Business News in 2013 for its 15th annual ‘Women Who Mean Business’ under the ‘For Profit Business Women of the Year’ category.

“I have really enjoyed working with HomeStreet and I admire that they put value into working within the local community,” Choy-Beddow says. “Being acknowledged inspires me to continue working hard for the people of Hawaii.”

HomeStreet’s Honolulu retail branch has been recognized as the largest deposit branch of all HomeStreet bank’s 55 locations throughout the west.
