MetLife Supports Disaster Relief Efforts in the U.S. and Mexico

MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) today announced efforts to help those impacted by Hurricane Irma in the U.S., and by the recent earthquake in Mexico.

  • MetLife Foundation will contribute $250,000 to the American Red Cross for relief and recovery efforts in Florida and other areas affected by Hurricane Irma. In addition, MetLife Foundation will match MetLife employee contributions made to the American Red Cross to aid victims of Hurricane Irma.
  • MetLife Auto & Home’s National Catastrophe Response Team is working in Orlando to handle incoming Hurricane Irma claims and is available on a 24/7 basis. Customers should contact 800-854-6011 or [email protected] for claim inquiries and service. MetLife Auto & Home also has additional claims representatives working in the field in Florida to help customers quickly resolve their homeowner and auto claims. The company will promptly compensate customers for covered damage to their property – including issuing advance payments using a stored value card or electronic funds transfer for immediate expenses. It has also extended the premium grace period for policy holders in the counties that have been designated as disaster areas.
  • MetLife is also expanding access to MetLaw, a group benefit legal plan, to assist U.S. customers impacted by Hurricane Harvey or Irma. For all employers who currently offer MetLaw to their employees, Hyatt Legal Plans, part of MetLife Group Benefits, will provide consultation and document review services free of charge to those impacted by the hurricanes. In addition, Hyatt Legal Plans is offering its customers the opportunity to enroll their employees into MetLaw for the last three months of 2017.
  • In Mexico, following the earthquake of Sept. 7, Fundación MetLife México is contributing $100,000 to the Red Cross for disaster relief and $300,000 to Fondo para la Paz, a nonprofit in Mexico City, to fund the rebuilding of schools that were damaged or destroyed by the earthquake.

MetLife thanks the first responders and volunteers on the ground for their heroic efforts to provide relief to the thousands impacted in Florida and Mexico.
