Walgreens Donates $250,000 to American Red Cross Hurricane Maria Relief Efforts, Launches New Customer Donation Program at Stores Nationwide

In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Walgreens has committed to a $250,000 donation to American Red Cross Hurricane Maria relief efforts. In addition, Walgreens customers can also donate to Red Cross hurricane relief efforts at approximately 8,000 Walgreens and Duane Reade locations throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Customers can make donations at store checkout.

“Since opening our first store in Puerto Rico in 1960 we’ve had a strong commitment to serving the island’s health care needs, which have never been greater than they are now,” said Nivia Santiago, Walgreens regional vice president for Puerto Rico. “Today, our employees are working tirelessly to provide medicines and everyday needs to our patients and customers during this critical time. Across the country, our customers are looking for ways to show their generosity and support, which is why we’ve started this donation campaign as an easy way to help.”

Walgreens continues its aggressive effort to serve customers on the island by reopening its Puerto Rico stores as quickly as possible. As of 8:47 a.m. eastern time Monday, Walgreens has reopened more than half of its 120 stores on the island. Some locations are operating on a limited basis, many with generators that were already located onsite.
